Monterey, Memory Lane Style

Growing up my family took many a road trip. One that we loved and repeated was the drive up to Monterey to see the Aquarium. We would also usually stop at my Aunt Sue and Uncle Matt's place for a day or two or three to visit with our cousins and to do all kinds of fun country things like playing in forts in big fields and riding horse/ponies. We all loved those trips, and so I thought it would be fun to take the boys on a similar adventure.

Jeff, Mom, Dad, Tommy, Nic, Kenny and I made the drive up to Monterey on a Monday, we were all pretty worn out, between attending a wedding the previous weekend and being smack in the middle of planning and preparing for Grandma's services, but it ended up being the perfect break for all of us.

We waited until the last minute to book a room, and ended up getting a great deal at the Lighthouse Lodge in Pacific Grove (it isn't fancy, but it is clean and you get a great value for your dollar), which is a very short walk to the coast and so we had lots of opportunity for walking along beautiful oceanside trails. We spent an entire day in the Aquarium, which if amazing if you haven't been, and it has only gotten better since our last visit ten years ago. The kids had a blast, and I enjoyed watching them learn to love a place that I loved as a child. We also spent a morning exploring Point Lobos, another family favorite. We rounded out the trip with a visit to my Aunt Sue and Uncle Matt's - the perfect ending for our trip down memory lane!
