Beach Boys

A few weeks back we spent some time with some dear friends in Laguna Beach. We got some great shots of Tommy being turned into a mermaid, so I just had to post even though it is a bit delayed.

Update on Mary

This afternoon Mom was able to get her chemo, although just barely because her white blood cell counts were rather low. This was really discouraging for her because this month the doctor reduced her dose with the hopes that a lesser dose would allow her to have her chemo for the entire 3 week cycle. The last two months she has only been able to do two out of three chemo treatments due to low blood counts.

On a very positive note, her CA-19 marker went down a tiny bit this month, for the second month in a row, so it appears that her chemo drug is still working well enough for her to continue on it for the time being. This is a huge praise! Mom really prefers to stay on this drug for as long as possible.

Please pray for Mom's bone marrow to start producing more white blood cells. Pray that her chemotherapy will continue to work, and that her cancer would be contained and eradicated. Pray that she would get good rest and have lots of energy in the next few weeks.

Thank you so much for continuing to pray for Mom. We are so thankful for all of you.

Swimming

Tommy had the opportunity to do two weeks of swim lessons at the Plunge this summer. It was great fun to watch his enthusiasm this year. He has made a so much progress since his first lessons last year- now he loves the water and can propel himself quite well. The pictures are from the last day, when he got to put on a life jacket and play games in the deep section of the pool. We all went and cheered him on, although I suspect my dad only came along because he heard we would be heading to In-N-Out as a special end of swim lesson treat. Some people just can't pass up a double-double...

Monterey, Memory Lane Style

Growing up my family took many a road trip. One that we loved and repeated was the drive up to Monterey to see the Aquarium. We would also usually stop at my Aunt Sue and Uncle Matt's place for a day or two or three to visit with our cousins and to do all kinds of fun country things like playing in forts in big fields and riding horse/ponies. We all loved those trips, and so I thought it would be fun to take the boys on a similar adventure.

Jeff, Mom, Dad, Tommy, Nic, Kenny and I made the drive up to Monterey on a Monday, we were all pretty worn out, between attending a wedding the previous weekend and being smack in the middle of planning and preparing for Grandma's services, but it ended up being the perfect break for all of us.

We waited until the last minute to book a room, and ended up getting a great deal at the Lighthouse Lodge in Pacific Grove (it isn't fancy, but it is clean and you get a great value for your dollar), which is a very short walk to the coast and so we had lots of opportunity for walking along beautiful oceanside trails. We spent an entire day in the Aquarium, which if amazing if you haven't been, and it has only gotten better since our last visit ten years ago. The kids had a blast, and I enjoyed watching them learn to love a place that I loved as a child. We also spent a morning exploring Point Lobos, another family favorite. We rounded out the trip with a visit to my Aunt Sue and Uncle Matt's - the perfect ending for our trip down memory lane!
